Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Co-operative Marketing Federation, said that since GST on pouch milk is already zero, there will be no change in its prices.

He said that only the prices of Ultra High Temperature Milk (UHT Milk) will decrease from September 22, as the GST on it has been reduced from 5% to 0%.

Earlier, it was reported in many media outlets that the prices of pouch milk would be reduced by Rs 3-4 per litre following the change in GST rates.

What is Ultra-High Temperature Milk?

Ultra-high temperature milk is made through special processing. In this, the milk is heated at 135 degrees Celsius (275 degrees Fahrenheit) for a few seconds, which kills almost all the bacteria present in it.

Special packaging: It is then packed in special packaging like tetra packs, which keeps it intact for many months without refrigeration. This makes this milk useful in places where fresh milk is not readily available.

From 22 September, instead of 4, there will be only two slabs of GST, 5% and 18%. This will make the items of daily use like soap, shampoo, AC and car cheaper. This decision was taken in the 56th meeting of the GST Council. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave this information on 3 September.

Finance Minister Sitharaman said that many food items, including milk, roti, paratha, and chenna, will be GST-free. There will be no tax on individual health and life insurance. 33 life-saving medicines, medicines for rare diseases and serious diseases will also be tax-free. Luxury items and tobacco products will now attract 40% GST instead of 28%.
