The Company will be Set Up by 2026
The company plans to fully scale up operations by the financial year 2026. With this, Murata aims to gain hands-on experience in factory operations in India, laying the groundwork for future manufacturing expansion in the country there’s much more to come.
Addressing concerns that India’s part in manufacturing is being seen as limited to assembly operations, he added, “Watch how the supply chain shift is unfolding!” Murata’s entry into Tamil Nadu follows the arrival of major global players like Corning and Jabil, reinforcing the state’s growing status as a hub for advanced electronics manufacturing.
Murata’s First India Plant: Murata to Ship Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors
“Over the last couple of years, Chief Minister M K Stalin has had us on our toes with the mission of bringing more of the electronics value chain to Tamil Nadu by attracting key component manufacturers. This is a critical step in our goal of scaling electronics exports tenfold to $100 billion, and the results are evident for all to see!” Rajaa said.
Murata’s components are widely used across smartphones, automotive, consumer electronics, and IoT devices, with major clients including Apple and Samsung.
Aim of the Company Established in India
As part of its India strategy, the company has signed a $6.6 million, five-year lease for a 3,500-square-metre facility that will focus on packaging and shipping of multilayer ceramic capacitors. This rental factory will help Murata assess the feasibility of investing in a full-scale production facility in India.
Murata President Norio Nakajima Said On Murata’s First India Plant
In a statement to Bloomberg, Murata president Norio Nakajima said that the company is assessing rising demand in India and evaluating the requirements to accelerate its investment efforts in the country.
We’ve been making our newest capacitors mostly in Japan, but customers are asking us to manufacture more overseas due partly to business continuity planning purposes,” Nakajima added. Currently, about 60% of its multilayer ceramic capacitors are produced in Japan, but that share is expected to decline to around 50% in the coming years, Nakajima further noted.
- Murata Electronics (India) Private Limited, a subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd, has agreed to lease a factory within an industrial park in India, with the handover taking place in February 2025.
- Murata’s components are important in nearly all electronics, including smartphones from Apple and Samsung as well as Nvidia’s servers, Sony’s gaming consoles, and even a NASA helicopter on Mars.
