After this tariff war, Indian agencies have become cautious about imports coming from China. The main reason for this is that China may send its surplus products to India after the US imposed a 34 % tariff. Because India has always been a big market for Chinese goods.

What is said, Indian Officer?

According to an Indian official’s statement, the agencies are currently noticing any unusual increase in imports coming from China and ASEAN countries. A senior official, on the condition of anonymity, said that all the big economies are worried after the US started the tariff war.

Countries can, at this point, send their surpluses either directly or through another country (with which they have a free trade agreement), including China. The officer said that to deal with this problem, our customs officers are constantly monitoring and are on high alert to detect any such dumping. Apart from this, we also have many legal means to protect our domestic industries from such irregularities.

Finance Ministry say about India on High Alert Over China?

Another Finance Ministry official said that the Narendra Modi government is constantly pressuring the ASEAN countries to remove the flaws in our agreement. We hope that the revised agreement will be implemented by the end of this year.

The agreement made in 2009 under the UPA government was hasty. The current government of India wants to resolve this deal through renegotiation. Because somewhere there is evidence that goods from China and other non-ASEAN countries are reaching India through ASEAN countries.

What is ASEAN?
