Jio Recharge Plans Became Expensive: Reliance Jio has discontinued its cheapest prepaid plans with 1GB daily data. These plans were priced at ₹209 and ₹249. The validity of one plan was 22 days and the validity of the other plan was 28 days, in which unlimited calling and 100 SMS were available. This has come as a big shock to users across the country.
Now the daily data plan with 28 days validity starts at ₹299. It offers 1.5GB daily data. Before Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea have discontinued cheap plans. Both these companies already charge ₹299 for 28 days.
Why did Jio take this step?
According to reports, Jio has taken this step to increase its Average Revenue per User (ARPU). ARPU is the average amount that a user pays to a telecom company. Jio wants to strengthen its financial health by increasing it. Currently, Jio’s ARPU is ₹209.
What options do users have now?
After the removal of the Rs 249 and Rs 209 plans, Jio no longer has any prepaid plan with 1GB daily data. Now the budget-friendly plans that are available are given below –
•Rs 239: It offers 1.5GB daily data, unlimited calling and 100 SMS per day with a validity of 22 days. This plan is cheaper than ₹249, but the validity is 6 days less. If you want a little more data with less validity, then this is a good option.
•Rs 189: It offers a total of 2GB data, unlimited calling, 300 SMS with a validity of 28 days. This plan is for those who use less data and want to keep the SIM active mainly for calling and SMS.
•Rs 198: It offers 2GB daily data, unlimited calling, 100 SMS per day with a validity of 14 days. This plan gives more data, but the validity is less. It is fine if you use more data.
•₹299: It offers 1.5GB daily data, unlimited calling, 100 SMS per day with a validity of 28 days. This plan is more expensive than the ₹249 plan but offers 1.5GB daily data. If you can go a little above the ₹249 budget, then this is a better option.
User’s Reaction –
Many users are angry with this move of Jio. Some users on social media said that Jio is gradually ending its cheap plans, which is creating problems for common people.
A user wrote, “The plan of 249 was perfect for me. Now I will have to spend less validity for 239 or more for 299. Jio should bring back cheap plans.” At the same time, some users say that they are now looking towards operators like BSNL, which are offering cheap plans.
