OpenAI Meta in talks with Reliance: Artificial intelligence (AI) giant OpenAI and social media company Meta are in talks with Indian company Reliance for a new AI business partnership. According to sources, OpenAI executives have recently held discussions with Reliance representatives for a possible product and sales partnership.

According to a report, Sam Altman-led company OpenAI is looking to partner with Reliance’s telecom arm Jio to distribute or sell its AI products, including ChatGPT. Reliance’s cloud business and API deal During the talks, Reliance, which also provides cloud services, considered a proposal to sell OpenAI’s models to its enterprise customers via an API. However, the deal could also involve Microsoft, which has the privilege to resell OpenAI’s models to businesses via an API.
Meta’s potential role Meanwhile, another source said Meta Platforms has also expressed “ambitions” to work with Reliance on AI businesses, though Meta did not mention any specific product partnerships involved in the talks.

According to a report, top OpenAI executives internally told their employees that the company is considering reducing the price of ChatGPT’s premium subscription for Indian users from the current $20 per month to a few dollars. However, it is not clear whether OpenAI has discussed this price cut with Reliance.
Reliance’s data centre plan Sources also said that Reliance, which is building one of the largest data centres in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has also discussed the possibility of selling its data centre capacity to OpenAI and Meta. Reliance has also considered running OpenAI and Meta’s large language models (LLMs) in a potential data centre with 3 gigawatt (GW) capacity.
Additionally, Reliance has discussed hosting and operating OpenAI’s models locally to ensure that Indian customer data is kept within the country’s borders. The discussions come at a time when Reliance executives have held talks with government officials over data localisation rules that would require foreign AI companies to store Indian consumer data within the country to ensure security and privacy.
OpenAI also discussed with employees cutting the ChatGPT subscription price to as low as several dollars instead of $20 a month, according to the report, which added that it is not clear if OpenAI has discussed the idea of price reduction with Reliance.

Meta Has no Comments Mode
Meta declined to comment on The Information report. OpenAI and Reliance did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the report.
