RBI Governor Appointment: The Government of India has appointed Sanjay Malhotra as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Malhotra’s name. He has been appointed RBI Governor for 3 years with effect from 11 December.

Let us tell you that Malhotra is currently working as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry and will take charge of the Reserve Bank of India for a tenure of three years from 11 December.
Let us tell you that after Urjit Patel suddenly left the post of Governor, Shaktikanta Das was RBI Governor Appointment as the 25th Governor of RBI on December 12, 2018. He was given an extension in service after completing his 3-year tenure. His second term ends on Tuesday.

Sanjay Malhotra is taking charge as the 26th Governor of RBI at a time when the central bank is in a difficult situation. Malhotra is a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre. Malhotra holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from IIT-Kanpur and a post-graduation in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
Malhotra has over 33 years of experience across various sectors including finance, power, IT, taxation, and mines. He has served in senior roles at both the Central and State levels. Before he was appointed Revenue Secretary in December 2022, he was Secretary of the Department of Finance Services, where he played a key role in pursuing finance reforms and strengthening the banking sector.
He has also played an important role in promoting growth in tax collections and has also served as the ex-officio Secretary of the GST Council.
