This decision will benefit more than 5400 women employees of the company. The company has a total of 60,000 employees, of which about 9% are women. L&T is the first company to do so in the engineering and construction sector.

Company sources said that Subramanian said that the exact details of the modalities of implementation of this announcement will be worked out soon by the concerned authorities. He said that this announcement will apply only to the women employees of the parent company L&T and will not apply to the sub-diaries of the financial services technology company.
SN Subrahmanyan has advised employees to work for 90 hours
Earlier on January 11, SN Subrahmanyan had advised his employees to work 90 hours a week during an online meeting of L&T’s internal meeting. He had said that if possible, the company will make you work even on Sundays. During the conversation, Subramanian also answered the questions of the employees and also asked questions.
When he was asked why this billion dollar company calls its employees even on Saturdays, he replied, ‘I am sorry that I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work even on Sundays, I will be happier, because I work on Sundays.’
The Supreme Court has given instructions to make policy
On 8 July 2024, the Supreme Court directed the Center to make a policy while hearing the petition demanding period leave. Then the court had said that our decision to give period leave to women would be detrimental to women because companies would avoid giving jobs to women.
12 periods leave to women employees in Odisha
On August 15, 2024, the Odisha government had announced to give one period leave every month to the women employees of the state. In the new provision, women employees have been given 12 days of additional casual leave in a year. This is different from the existing 10 days CL and 5 days special CL.
75% of women in the country do not get period leave
According to a survey report by Naukri.com, about 75% of female employees in India are not given period leave by their companies. The report states that about 34% of the female employees in the country consider period leave as their priority. This survey was conducted on 70,000 female employees from more than 50 cities in the country.
