People in India will soon be able to use a Made in India web browser. This browser will be developed by the Indian software company Zoho Corporation. This Zoho Indian Web Browser will compete with big players like Google and Microsoft. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced this on Thursday 20 March.
The ministry had organized a competition named ‘Indian Web Browser Development Challenge’ to develop an indigenous web browser, in which Zoho Corporation won the first prize. For this, Zoho has received a prize of Rs 1 crore.
At the same time, Team Ping came second and Team Ajna came third in the competition. Team Ping will get Rs 75 lakh and Team Ajna will get Rs 50 lakh. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave a cheque for the prize money to all the winners. During this, he said that it was a pleasure to see that the winners of this challenge are coming from tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

- Data Security: This browser will be under the supervision of the government and the country’s data will remain in the country.
- Data Privacy: Made in India browser will follow the Data Privacy Act. Users’ data will be safe.
- Run on all devices: This browser will run on all operating systems like iOS, Windows and Android.

Google Chrome has an 88.94% market share in the Indian market with around 850 million users. The government has announced a funding of Rs 3 crore to develop a Made in India web browser .Once it is ready, it will be given a security certificate, after which users will be able to use the indigenous browser.

Internet browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla, and Firefox do not include Indian certification agencies in their root store. The root store is called the trust store, which contains information about the operating system and applications whether they are secure or not.No Indian agency is involved in its certification.
Currently, the browsers available in India are not in coordination with the Government of India regarding security and privacy, due to which India is going to develop its internet browser. India is rapidly digitizing. In such a situation, online security and privacy is an important issue.
